‘What a difference we all make together’: Recognising service to humanity
On Wednesday, October 2, St John WA celebrated the achievements of 179 team members and their extraordinary contribution to the West Australian community.
The recognition ceremony is a special bi-annual event that acknowledges the remarkable academic and professional achievements of St John WA’s operational team.
The awards included the following categories:
- Paramedic graduates
- 10-40 Year Service Award recipients
- National Medals to operational staff
- First clasps
His Excellency The Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia presented the National Medals and clasps.
St John WA Board chairperson Sally Carbon opened proceedings by thanking the awardees for following their dream to serve.
“The St John dream was a vision from Queen Victoria, who in 1888 rekindled the charitable life of the ancient, now 1000-year-old St John movement,” Ms Carbon said.
“I’m sure she would be honoured by you all continuing the dream of this worldwide royal order.
“Tonight, we celebrate the strength of dedication and formally acknowledge the achievements of these team members who have dared to start their dream.”
Lindsay Scott, a St John WA paramedic with 47 years of service, shared his tips on maintaining mental health as a paramedic and living to the organisation’s values.
“You must lead by the heart and support each other as much as possible,” Mr Scott said.
St John WA Group CEO Kevin Brown closed the ceremony by thanking the group for their continued service with a particular message for the younger paramedics.
“You are the future of this organisation,” Mr Brown said.
“You have some great mentors with many years of service – your fresh ideas combined with that mentorship will makes us stronger as we work together as one team to strive for continual excellence.
“What a difference we all make together.”
