St John WA presents awards to outstanding ECU students

Press Release

Each year Edith Cowan University’s (ECU’s) School of Medical and Health Sciences (SMHS) recognises the outstanding achievements of its students by awarding prizes at a formal ceremony.

As part of the on-going partnership between ECU and St John WA, SJWA sponsored three awards at this year’s ECU SMHS Prizegiving Ceremony on 27 March, with two leaders attending to represent the organisation.

Rudi Brits, Head of Wellbeing, Safety and Injury Management, and Brooke Cook, Acting Health Alliance and Engagement Manager, presented each of the SJWA award winners with a $250 book voucher.

“These awards are just one example of the growing partnership between ECU and SJWA,” said Brooke.

“Together, we’re expanding opportunities through joint research, collaborative education initiatives, and the piloting of clinical placements in rural and remote WA.”

“It’s an exciting step forward in preparing the next generation of paramedics for the unique challenges of our state.”

Lauryn, Briony and Mackenzee, along with the rest of their cohort, will undertake Clinical Placements facilitated by the SJWA University and Industry team across 2025.

“The awards program offers a real privilege to be part of the students’ journey so early in their careers,” said Brooke.

“Supporting cultural understanding and female leadership aligns strongly with SJWA’s core values—and as someone who started at 21 myself, meeting the students and their families was truly heart-warming.”
