St John WA recognised for safety excellence with three awards finalists
St John WA has three finalists in the 2026 Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards.
The awards highlight the strong commitment of Western Australian workplaces to finding practical, innovative ways to improve health and safety.
Claire Dadd is a finalist for Health and Safety Representative (HSR) of the Year.
Since taking on the HSR role in 2023, Claire has demonstrated exceptional dedication to advocating for the health, safety and wellbeing of St John teams across the Wheatbelt.
Through her active involvement in safety committees, working groups and organisational risk forums, Claire has ensured the voices of regional staff and volunteers are represented in important safety decisions.
Drawing on 20 years’ experience as a volunteer, she brings first-hand knowledge of rural and remote operations to safety discussions, helping ensure policies are practical and responsive to the conditions regional teams face.
Two St John WA initiatives are also finalists in the Leadership Excellence Award for organisations with 200 employees or more.
St John WA’s Event Health Services (EHS) has been selected for their work undertaken across the team to strengthen work health and safety (WHS) through visible leadership, operational readiness and continual improvement.
When it comes to supporting event medical operations throughout WA, safety is now embedded across planning, leadership, clinical governance and real-time decision making.
The Work Safety and Injury Management (WSIM) team has also been recognised for their transformation of St John’s approach to psychosocial safety.
By embedding mental health protection, early intervention and wellbeing support directly into operations, a framework is now in place to better support team members across metropolitan, rural and remote locations.
The framework brings together key psychosocial safety measures including education, confidential reporting, clinical support, psychosocial risk management and post-service aftercare.
Winners will be announced at Optus Stadium on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
