Free new online first aid courses developed by St John are being made available to the public to mark World First Aid Day.

First Aid for Me courses deliver relevant skills to people specific to what they need to know in an easy to understand and follow format.

Students receive an electronic non-accredited certificate on completion and can do as many courses as they wish, building their first aid knowledge.

St John Chief of Brand and Reputation Aaron Crowther said the courses were not a substitute for an accredited qualification, but offered a quick refresher or introduction to basic  first aid with relevant, targeted information.

“We know how important it is to build confidence and capability in community to use first aid skills and these courses are a step towards that, as they directly link to our core training offering of St John designed and accredited training,” Mr Crowther said.

“This year St John marked 130 years of delivering first aid training to Western Australians. There is no better way we could think to celebrate that milestone than making first aid free and accessible for everyone.”

The first tranche of courses includes first aid for teachers, new parents and sportspeople.

“St John interacts with people needing urgent or emergency health care through ambulance and our network of six urgent care centres in Perth,” Mr Crowther said.

“Using that knowledge means we know the types of scenarios where people most often find themselves using their first aid skills, and target first aid classes for those people.”

In addition to First Aid for Me, St John also offers a course targeting learner drivers, click-to-save which was completed by 8000 students last year and endorsed by the Road Safety Commission.
