Fresh look for Karratha sub centre thanks to local artist

St John WA’s Karratha sub centre has unveiled their new look thanks to local Indigenous artist Xavier Dhurrkay.

Mr Dhurrkay designed artwork for the sub centre and said he hoped his painting would “bridge the gap between non-Indigenous and Indigenous mob around the Pilbara and Australia”.

His digital artwork has been printed onto new t-shirts and represents all the support the St John facilities provide to the community.

St John WA paramedic, Shannan Bradley, said the organisation wanted to recognise the culture of the Yindjibarndi and Ngurluma people.

“I think it’s just to know that there is a time for us to listen and there is a time for us to learn,” she said.

“We wanted to make sure that we are being culturally sensitive in the care that we deliver to our community.”
