Girl Guides learn life-saving skills thanks to St John WA
Girl Guides from Perth’s southern suburbs have gained powerful, life-saving knowledge and skills thanks to St John WA’s First Aid Awareness (FAA) team.
In recognition of ‘Thank a First Responder Day’, Girl Guides WA held an event on June 6 which saw St John WA, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Volunteer Marine Rescue WA and Western Australia Police Force team up to spread the word about the important role each service plays in the community.
Through a variety of hands-on activities and interactive displays, volunteers from St John WA taught the Guides some essential first aid skills, such as bandaging techniques and CPR demonstrations, as well as what to do in an emergency.
The group also jumped at the chance to tour an ambulance up close.
At the end of the event, St John volunteers were given a special banner created by the Guides and some handmade treats as a gesture of their appreciation.

Erin, Girl Guides Leader for the Willetton Wildflower Unit, was grateful for the time St John volunteers gave to the event.
“Thank you to the team for attending our Emergency Services Day and for sharing their knowledge and skills with our Guides,” Erin said.
“Your presentation provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about first aid, emergency response, and the important role that St John plays in our community.
“The practical examples and interactive learning experiences were particularly engaging and greatly appreciated.”
St John WA’s First Aid Awareness team provides free educational activations at community events, providing the opportunity for children and their families to learn various first aid skills with a range of age-appropriate activities.
The team is always looking for new volunteers.
