Harvey sub centre celebrates one year of hybrid model

Press Release

After operating as a volunteer-only sub centre for 88 years, St John WA Harvey transitioned to hybrid model in 2023.

The introduction of paid paramedics to the sub centre was intended to provide more support to the dedicated local volunteer base and broader community.

The change came as a result of the Cook Government’s broader commitment to boosting ambulance response capabilities in the region, funding the addition of paramedics to the sub centre as part of the modernised State Government contract with SJWA.

Harvey sub centre has now celebrated a year of hybrid operations with two paid paramedics supporting 48 volunteers.

In that time they have completed more than 1700 ambulance cases.

Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson visited the Harvey team this week to tour the facilities, meet with volunteers, and discuss the current initiatives and challenges as part of the ongoing support from the State Government.

Harvey is one of 160 SJWA locations across regional Western Australia.

This includes 137 volunteer-only response locations and 23 hybrid stations with a mix of volunteer ambulance officers and career paramedics working side-by-side.
