International Paramedics Day: Thank you for all that you do

Press Release

Today marks the first ever International Paramedics Day which aims to recognise and celebrate the work carried out by paramedics and first responders around the world.

Day in, day out, paramedics put the wellbeing and safety of those within their community first. Now, for the first time, July 8 will be dedicated to the world’s paramedics. This date was selected due to being the anniversary of the birth of Dominique-Jean Larrey, the man often referred to as the ‘father of modern-day ambulance services’.

Here at St John WA we are fortunate to have skilled Student Ambulance Officers, Ambulance Officers, and Paramedics to keep our community safe, alongside our many volunteers. We’re also proud to be celebrating the first ever International Paramedics Day, during the same month as our 100 years of Ambulance Services celebrations. Covering more than 2,525,500 square kilometres is no easy feat, and it simply couldn’t be done without our dedicated paramedics who help to guide and assist those around them to provide the best care possible for those in their charge.

The theme of International Paramedic Day 2022 is ‘Proud to be a Paramedic’ and paramedics around the world will be sharing their stories, so keep a look out, you may see a familiar face. You can join in the fun using the hashtag #ProudToBeAParamedic.

Thank you to all paramedics, near and far, for everything you do.Have you ever wanted to sit down with a paramedic and learn more about how they serve their community? Join James Lyons as he answers a few questions.
