Kambalda Medical opens for business

St John CEO Michelle Fyfe, who will be in attendance on the day, said this marked an important milestone for the area who had been without a GP service since June this year.

“We have worked closely with the Shire of Coolgardie and consulted extensively with local business and community members to come up with an innovative and sustainable model providing comprehensive medical services,” Mrs Fyfe said.

“Not only have we engaged Dr Deborah Adeyemi in the GP role, but St John will also build a range of medical services such as telemedicine and volunteer supported services including community transport and first aid to ensure a more sustainable service and build a more resilient community.

“We have been operating four primary health clinics and three urgent care centres in metropolitan Perth, but we are excited for this to be our first venture into regional WA providing GP and primary health services.

“We already have a long history of a volunteer-led ambulance service in Kambalda, which we hope will grow from strength to strength, but we are also excited to offer new, diverse, non-clinical volunteer roles and already have positive uptake and interest from the Kambalda community,” Mrs Fyfe said.

Shire President Malcolm Cullen welcomes St John’s health care model in Kambalda which will be delivered on a full-time basis.

“I am genuinely excited about the return of health services to Kambalda. The Shire is committed to working along-side St John to provide long-term sustainable health and well-being services to the Kambalda community.””
