Little legends celebrate launch of St John children’s book
This year’s Festival of Words in Perth’s Yagan Square saw the launch of St John WA’s children’s book, Land of Legends.
Over two fun sessions, children got to hear stories from the book read by author Deb Fitzpatrick, and they also got to meet and chat with St John paramedic Derek Waller whose own story features in the book.
Kura Bear was in attendance, along with The Wiggles ambulance, which always draws a crowd.
Children were able to ask questions about what it’s like to be a paramedic and to take part in activities during the sessions which were part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Land of Legends is about legends from St John saving and helping people all over Western Australia.
It is the organisation’s first book for children and features inspirational stories of love and courage even grown-ups will enjoy.
Part of the proceeds of the sale of the book go to St John Giving, which provides community support through a range of fundraising programs and initiatives for vulnerable, disadvantaged and at-risk Western Australians with the aim to build safer, more resilient communities throughout the state.
