Meet Dr Kiran Kaur, the new Midland dentist putting patients at ease

“We might not be saving lives, but we save the source of life.”

Dentist Dr Kiranbir (Kiran) Kaur will make sure you can live your life without worrying about your teeth.

And she is excited to start meeting local patients at St John Dental in Midland.

Kiran began her career Down Under after moving to Perth from Punjab in India with her husband and finishing her Australian Dental Council exams in 2016.

She brings her extensive skills in extractions and cosmetic dentistry to the practice – and can look after veneers, smile makeovers, restorations, crowns and bridges.

But she’s especially passionate about ensuring everybody has a great dental experience, whatever treatment is on the cards.

“The adults I see can be very anxious about coming to the dentist,” Kiran said.

“Older patients often carry a lot of trauma from their previous experiences.”

Kiran prides herself on putting her patients at ease and understanding any underlying fears.

“Dentistry has come such a long way – local anaesthetics are so good now and we have been trained to be kind, calm and gentle,” she said.

Patients can expect a good listening ear and an understanding approach from Kiran.

“I’ll listen and then explain how their experience with me will be different to what they may have had in the past,” she said.

“I’d encourage anyone to just tell their dentist what makes them scared.

“Is it drilling? Noises? Pain? I’m happy to try and address that with all of my patients.”

Lured by the reputation of St John Dental, Kiran has also joined the team as she is soon to be a local.

Kiran and her husband are currently building their dream home in Caversham.

“Since moving to Perth, I have always loved the Swan Valley,” Kiran said.

“The space, the great wine, it’s very beautiful.”

Being so close to her new workplace will give Kiran additional time to focus on her hobbies, too.

Outside of work, Kiran has been testing her creativity through watercolour painting and food vlogging.

Her Instagram account is taking off.

She now has more than 8000 people following her journey through the Perth Indian food scene.

“I’m a creative person and I like to share the food I eat with friends and family – it’s fun and helps me relax,” she said.

Kiran is excited about her next steps at St John Dental and is now taking on new patients.
