  • Out of about 50 submissions across Australasia, St John WA (SJWA) takes record four nominations across six categories for the organisation, tied with Ambulance Victoria.
  • SJWA’s excellence in Patient Care, Staff Development, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Leadership considered at 17th annual Council of Ambulance Authorities’ Congress from August 14-16 in Melbourne.
  • The awards will be announced on August 15 at a gala dinner.

St John WA’s commitment to excellence in Patient Care, Staff Development, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Leadership has seen four projects for each of these categories recognised at the upcoming Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA) 2024 Awards for Excellence.

With a record number of award nominations for the organisation in recent history, St John WA has tied with Ambulance Victoria for the most nominations in six categories, which also include Clinical Practice and Technology.

With almost 50 submissions across Australasia, the 17th annual CAA Awards finalists were selected from a highly competitive field of entries and judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

CAA CEO David Waters said the awards were developed to showcase the remarkable dedication and ingenuity of ambulance professionals across the region.

“We’re so proud to celebrate these achievements within our sector and a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to enter. On behalf to the judge’s panel, it was a very difficult decision to narrow down on this list of finalists, so it is a real honour to see the innovation and solutions that have been presented from our members this year,” said David.

SJWA Chief Emergency Officer Brendon Brodie-Hall welcomed the nominations and congratulated finalists and everyone who entered.

“Congratulations to all those being showcased at this year’s CAA Congress in Melbourne, which also includes clinical team members giving a talk or displaying our great work in poster form to other ambulance authorities,” said Brendon.

“Since joining, I know St John WA to be one of the best ambulance authorities in the nation, if not the world, thanks to our people and we continue to listen and invest in their ideas in order to learn and grow.”

SJWA Group CEO Kevin Brown said the innovations occurring at SJWA came from the dedication and ingenuity of team members driving change which ultimately benefits the broader community.

“I am so proud of all our people who work tirelessly behind the scenes every day to build an organisation they are proud of, not only because it leads with the heart but innovates and encourages learnings from trying something new,” said Kevin.

“While we celebrate these successes, we also recognise every team member who has contributed to building best practices over the years to get us where we are now and continue along this path in creating a better future for all.”

St John WA finalists are:

  • State Obstetrics Referral Call (STORC) for Excellence in Patient Care;
  • Low Acuity Response (LAR) medic pathway for Excellence in Staff Development;
  • Inclusive Flexible Workplace Arrangements (FWA) for Excellence in Mental Health & Wellbeing;
