Servicing the South West and beyond
After moving to the South West to be closer to her mum, Nicole Bathurst was seeking flexible, customer-focused employment to fit in around her caring responsibilities.
She has now found her ideal role as a Field Service Officer here at St John WA.
Field Service Officers play a key role in keeping Western Australia safe and prepared for emergencies.
From servicing first aid kits to checking defibrillators and emergency oxygen equipment, it is a hands-on job supporting businesses and individuals to meet first aid compliance standards.
“I know it seems strange but Band-Aids do lose their stickiness and bandages do lose their stretch,” Nicole said.
“It’s important to keep everything up to date.”

From mine sites in Yalyalup to wineries in Yallingup, she travels all over the South West in her role.
With regular visits required to check and restock kits onsite, Nicole has been enjoying building a rapport with her clients.
She is also working hard to secure new business and can often be found at local tourism and business events spreading the word about the importance of first aid kits and defibs.
“Nicole plays a really important role in supporting local businesses and community organisations through her first aid kit servicing work in Busselton and Margaret River areas,” Dan Andrew, Regional Operations Manager – Training and Equipment, said.
“She’s reliable, detail-focused, and really cares about making sure people have the right equipment ready when it’s needed.
“Her local knowledge and approachable nature make her very well suited to the role, and she’s a valued part of our team.”
While the role does not require any formal qualifications, Nicole’s life experience has put her in good stead to succeed.
“I’ve had a varied life. I trained as a dietician, I home educated my children for 20 years and I had an online business for a while,” Nicole said.
“St John is a great organisation to work for and there’s a lot of support when you need it and recognition when you go above and beyond.”
“I love this job – there’s a lot of flexibility.”

Outside of work, Nicole loves fitness and recently walked the famous Cape to Cape Track through the Margaret River region – something that has only been possible through her relocation to the South West.
“Every day I wake up and feel grateful for my role,” she said.
“Stocktake is a little bit of a pain – but you don’t have to do it very often.”
Field Service Officers like Nicole have the power to make a real difference by ensuring the tools needed to save lives are always ready.
