St John chips in for WA families

St John WA has shown it has the Christmas spirit by collecting hundreds of gifts on behalf of its staff and volunteers for WA children and young people.

Staff and volunteers from St John have given presents to the giving trees set up in our state office in Belmont and across regional WA — and these were transported to Anglicare WA today.

St John Chief Executive Officer Michelle Fyfe said St John was delighted to support families in WA.

“This is just another way our people demonstrate that they are all about ‘For the Service of Humanity’ which is our motto,” she said.

“We have been collecting these presents for children who are particularly vulnerable so we know the gifts will be very well received.”

Anglicare WA CEO Ian Carter AM thanked St John WA for choosing to donate the gifts to Anglicare WA. Students from Perth College have volunteered their time to wrap the presents before they’re delivered across Western Australia by Anglicare WA to children in contact with its frontline services.

“Christmas is just another day for many of these kids – they could have just fled violent homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs, or their families might be struggling simply to get-by and have no money to spare for gifts. These gifts will certainly bring some unexpected joy to these young lives,” said Mr Carter.

Ms Fyfe said she was proud of her organisation and the willingness of its people to support charities and other good causes.

“Not only do St John people all over the state volunteer to provide vital community services they are often the very same people who rally when there is a cause or need in the community,” she said.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry and a safe Christmas and a prosperous 2019.

“For our staff who are working this Christmas, we thank them for the time away from their loved ones in service to the community over the Christmas and holiday period.
