St John spreading Christmas cheer to WA families
More than 600 gifts donated by St John WA staff and volunteers will be distributed to children and young people across the state this Christmas via Anglicare WA.
St John “giving trees” have been set up in St John offices around WA as temporary homes for the presents which have today been transported to Anglicare WA.
St John Chief Executive Officer Michelle Fyfe said St John was delighted to support families in WA.
“Our motto is ‘For the Service of Humanity’ and this is just one more way our people demonstrate what we are all about,” she said.
“St John WA provides an estimated $201 million in charitable services and activities each year. This includes our free first aid training in WA schools and ambulance donations to overseas operations.
Anglicare WA Chief Executive Officer Mark Glasson said the gifts generously donated by the staff and volunteers at St John will bring much needed cheer to countless families doing it tough.
“More and more families are struggling to make ends meet in WA and are seeking our help to keep a roof over their heads or to buy food and pay bills. These donated presents will ensure children and young people still share the joy of opening a present on Christmas morning.
“We know some parents will resort to borrowing money from pay day lenders so their kids don’t miss out; but thanks to this thoughtful donation from St John, many families will be spared spiralling further into financial stress.”
Ms Fyfe said she was proud of her organisation and the willingness of its people to support charities and other good causes.
“Not only do St John people all over the state volunteer to provide vital community services they are often the very same people who rally when there is a cause or need in the community,” she said.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry and a safe Christmas and a prosperous 2020.
“For our staff who are working this Christmas, we thank them for the time away from their loved ones in service to the community over the Christmas and holiday period.
