St John WA celebrates a decade of Community Transport Services
This July marks a significant milestone for St John WA’s Community Transport Services (CTS) as they celebrate 10 years of supporting the community through accessible, reliable transport.
The first recorded job took place in June 2015, with the service officially commencing July 2015.
From its beginnings, CTS has grown into a trusted and much-loved service thanks to the incredible people behind the scenes.
The success over the past decade simply wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of tireless volunteers, who continue to give their time, energy, and heart to the service.
Their commitment is the foundation of what CTS stands for, and it’s something St John WA (SJWA) is immensely proud of.
Here’s to 10 years of service, community, and connection – with many more to come.
Meet Bob Hudson
Bob is a long serving team member who has dedicated more than nine years to CTS.
He became a CTS volunteer after receiving a phone call in 2015 from Volunteer Management Service (VMS) informing him of a new service starting up.
“The service was to transport elderly and the sick to medical appointments,” Bob said.
“This was an area much needed in Perth as the population was growing and spreading fast.”
Bob has seen CTS change throughout the years.
“When CTS first started, all of the cars were garaged at Belmont,” he said.
“As I live in Clarkson, this meant that start and finish times were increased, leading to a long day.
“The placement of cars at local depots has made this a lot easier.”
For Bob, the true joy of CTS lies in working closely with clients.
“The friendship and companionship that builds up while transporting the clients, especially the regulars, is what I enjoy most,” he said.
He reminisced on some of his favourite memories including catching up with people for coffee and talking to groups about CTS.
“I have built up friendships that go beyond the volunteering role,” Bob said.
In addition to his time with CTS, Bob has volunteered with SJWA for almost 20 years.
“I have been able to work in a variety of services including Event Health Services (EHS), driving and now logistics,” he said.
“If you are thinking of taking up a position as a volunteer, I can highly recommend it as a fulfilling position.”
