St John WA encourages people to swap their screen time for ‘real time’ and make a difference by volunteering
St John WA is encouraging people to swap their screen time for real time in its latest push to attract volunteers.
The marketing campaign aims to recruit new volunteers to support the Event Health Services (EHS) team in the metropolitan area.
This will help ensure sufficient volunteer coverage for future events and meet the increasing demand for EHS services.
As well as recruiting more volunteers, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the unique and rewarding volunteer opportunities within EHS.
It highlights the personal and community impact of volunteering, while showing people how they can swap “screen time for real time”, stepping away from endless scrolling to engage in real-life experiences, attend fun events, and make meaningful connections with others.
The campaign showcases the unique experiences and community impact of being an EHS volunteer, with team members attending some of Perth’s biggest events like concerts and festivals, motor cross and horse racing, the Perth Royal Show, community fairs, exhibitions, parades and major sporting events.
The messaging is both entertaining and impactful and was designed to resonate across generations.
It taps into the universal insight that people often spend their time scrolling through screens, highlighting volunteering as a meaningful and fulfilling alternative.
The vision communicates that volunteering is the antidote to endless searching, offering fun, connection, and the chance to be part of something extraordinary.
The core concept driving the campaign is: “Swap your screen time for real time.”
Worldwide, people spend an average of six hours and 40 minutes per day on screens.
Taking the step to volunteer with St John WA’s EHS team opens up an array of opportunities for different experiences and interaction within the community – all away from a screen.
Volunteers attend a wide variety of community events and perform an essential role in safeguarding the health of the public.
All volunteers are given the training, support and confidence to feel ready in their role to help the local community.
