St John WA highlights need for early intervention with ‘Shocktober’ plans

Press Release

This month, St John WA is highlighting the vital importance of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest for “Shocktober”.

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in Australia, striking about 30,000 Australians every year.

Thousands of Australian families lose someone they love to cardiac arrest every year because lifesaving equipment was not available when it was most needed.

Shocktober is aimed at creating awareness about sudden cardiac arrest, AED locations, and the crucial part defibrillators and CPR play in increasing sudden cardiac arrest survival.

For Shocktober this year, St John WA is offering 20 per cent off the recommended retail price of the St John G5 defibrillator for the whole month of October.

Listeners will hear about this promotion on all of the major Perth radio stations, as well as in Business News and on social media.

St John WA will also be sharing stories of cardiac arrest survivors whose lives were saved by early intervention, AEDs and CPR prior to ambulance arrival during the month.

These inspiring stories will highlight the need for people to learn CPR, with patients who receive immediate help after a cardiac arrest having a higher survival rate.
