St John WA opens brand new sub centre to support the growing Bindoon community

Press Release
  • St John WA has officially opened the doors to its new Bindoon Sub Centre, improving first aid training and ambulance capabilities in the region,
  • Key features include a two-bay drive-through garage, a large training room, two fatigue management rooms, an office and a kitchen area.
  • The new and improved sub centre will replace its smaller predecessor, which served the Bindoon community for almost a century.

St John WA has officially opened the doors to a new regional volunteer and first aid training facility in Bindoon.

The new and improved sub centre was built to replace the original 1922 facility, which was no long fit to support the growing needs of the Bindoon community.

Moving from Great Northern Hwy to Koomal Street in Bindoon, the new facility will be used for the continued provision of St John WA’s regional ambulance service, volunteer training and delivery of public first aid courses.

Through its new amenities, the sub centre can continue to support the hardworking Bindoon volunteers as they continue to deliver essential services to the local community.

Each year, St John Bindoon attends more than 160 callouts, with a team of volunteers dedicating their time and skills to supporting community members in their most vulnerable time of need.

Key features of the upgrade include a two-bay drive-through ambulance garage, a large training room, two fatigue management rooms, an office and reception area as well as a kitchen and servery.

St John WA Chittering Sub Centre Chairperson, Dennis Badcock, said the upgrades to the facility were warmly welcomed by the volunteers and local community.

“It has been exciting to see the new volunteer sub centre come to fruition. The old facility served us well, however these upgrades will enable us to improve our service for the Bindoon community and provide locals with top tier care and education,” he said.

“We could not have completed this upgrade without funding and support of the Chittering Shire, Architect Simon Anderson and Project Quantity Surveyor Trevor Phillips who were all major contributors to our building project.”

Simon Anderson Architect and Tom Campbell Building were appointed to design and construct the facility, which commenced in September 2020 and was completed just eight months later.

The new sub centre was officially opened with a ceremony over the weekend which included an unveiling of a plaque and tours of the facility. Bindoon Sub Centre is at 3 Koomal Street, Bindoon.
