St John WA’s Event Health Services helps to keep cyclists rolling
Australia’s top cyclists and para-cyclists came together to compete for the coveted green-and-gold national championship jersey at the Westbridge Funds Road National Championships in Perth in January – and St John WA’s Event Health Services (EHS) team was there to help.
Thousands of spectators and competitors gathered for the national cycling event which saw riders take on three challenging courses with Perth’s inner-city Kings Park as the centrepiece for the prestigious cycling race.
Other key race locations included Northbridge, Bold Park, the Perth High Performance Centre and the Perth CBD.
St John worked closely with event organisers and emergency services to ensure rapid response times and safe outcomes.
More than 45 EHS staff and volunteers – including event paramedics, doctors, and event health officers – remained on duty across multiple race days, helping the championships proceed safely and successfully.

EHS’s extensive experience in multi-day mass participation race events and large mass gathering crowds meant they were prepared for anything.
“It was a real privilege to partner with AusCycling to deliver a world‑class event medical presence on‑site,” Phil Watson, EHS Operations Manager, said.
“Ensuring athletes, officials, and spectators had access to high‑quality pre‑hospital care is something our EHS team takes immense pride in.
“Collaborating with clients who value safety and excellence as much as we do is what makes events like this exceptional.
“With iconic Perth locations on show to the world, events like this contribute significantly to the livability and economic sustainability of WA.
“We’re pleased to have played a part in making this safe and successful.”
