St John WA’s Onslow Sub Centre takes home two big awards

Press Release

For almost 45 years St John WA’s Onslow Sub Centre worked out of a shed, having been set up with a second-hand ambulance in 1975.

Now, not only does the sub centre have brand new digs – thanks to WA Country Health service and Chevron’s Wheatstone Project – it has won two prestigious awards.

Onslow Sub Centre won both the Best Community Organisation and the People’s Choice award at the recent Onslow Business Excellence Awards.

The awards are testament to the sub centre’s hard work, dedication, and care for the community.

A tight-knit team, the Onslow Sub Centre is run mostly by volunteers, and provides world-class emergency medical assistance, first aid supplies and training, and education for local children.

An impressive awards submission was supported by a number of community leaders including Onslow Police, whose senior constable Wade Standen wrote a recommendation with “great pride” for the local team who he said “never faltered in their commitment” to the community.

St John WA is extremely proud of the Onslow team who represent the very best in service to humanity from their remote Pilbara outpost.
