St John wins Optus Stadium tender

Press Release

St John Ambulance WA is delighted to have been awarded the tender to look after the health of visitors to the new Optus Stadium in Burswood.

The Medical and First Aid Services tender was awarded this month by stadium operator VenuesLive for a period of three years.

St John has been providing prehospital care to the WA community for more than 90 years and it has long relationship with premier sports stadiums in Perth such as Subiaco Oval and the WACA.

St John Chief Executive Officer Tony Ahern said St John looked forward to playing its part in providing an exceptional experience for patrons at Optus Stadium.

Mr Ahern said St John personnel are expertly trained to handle a large variety and volume of events.

“St John provides the health care needs for patrons attending many large events such as the annual Australia Day Skyworks, concerts and festivals so we are looking forward to continuing these services to the 60,000 strong audiences at the stadium,” he said.

Emergency care including ambulance, event first aid officers and medical staff – backed by the entire ambulance service and the State Operations Centre are included as part of the suite of services being promoted by St John.

“Ensuring a full range of health services are available to partners, we will have the ability to bypass emergency departments and be able to transport non-emergency patients to one of our three urgent care centres.”

“Also as provider of the state’s ambulance service we have connections with all the other emergency services and key stakeholders to deal with any large scale emergencies that may occur.”

St John will appoint a Medical Coordinator to the stadium and venue-specific medical teams are being put in place to maintain a consistent service.
