Surprise baby helped into the world by St John WA

Press Release

Before last week, Banksia Grove’s Ashlee Wilson wanted to be a truck driver.

That was before the 34-year-old called Triple Zero (000) in the early hours of the morning complaining of tummy pains.

A St John crew arrived within minutes, with the paramedic on board – Melissa Gardiner, who is also a midwife – quickly diagnosing the issue.

Ashlee was in labour. And her baby was coming now.

“As soon as I heard Ashlee I thought it sounded like a woman in labour,” Mel said.

“I asked her to let me examine her tummy, and I felt a baby.”

Within minutes, a beautiful baby girl was born in Ashlee’s living room.

Named Marley-Rae, the healthy bundle of joy has kept mum, and dad Justin, busy, but both parents are “so in love” with the little girl.

“I just want to kiss her all the time,” Ashlee said.

“I just think she was meant to be; we were meant to be together.”

For now, Ashlee’s dreams of truck driving interstate are on hold, but she couldn’t be happier.

“I just want to give this little girl the world,” she said.
