Your St John WA Health Check
Would you know what to do in an emergency situation? Are you one of the 1.2 million Western Australians who have connected with St John WA each year through at least one of its services? Here are some others outside ambulance that you should be aware of:
First Aid in Schools
We provide free first aid education to over 150,000 school students across WA each year.
The St John WA Youth and Community Engagement program aims to make first aid a part of everyone’s life by delivering a range of free learning opportunities for students in WA. Our program has been designed to provide students with engaging and practical skills that are directly mapped to the school curriculum. Learn more here.
First Aid
St John WA offers a range of nationally accredited courses, for families but also corporates looking at better managing mental health, as well as shorter, non-accredited training options – there’s an option for everyone, no matter your reason for learning first aid.
Completing a St John WA first aid accredited course will earn you an official Certificate of Attendance and with specific courses, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. Certain courses also comply with the WA WorkSafe requirements as outlined in the Code of Practice. This accreditation may assist in access to employment, as St John WA is regarded as the training provider of choice by many large mining and construction companies. Learn more here.
First Aid for Mental Health
Our mental health training course will help you build your knowledge and understanding about stress, depression, anxiety and suicide, and learn the crucial first steps in helping someone to seek professional ongoing care here.
First Aid for Me
Knowing first aid means you can help someone feel better, heal quicker, or care for them until help arrives. We want everyone to know how to save a life, so we offer free personalised 15-minute courses online focused on what is essential for your lifestyle here.
St John Safe Assessment
Accidents and medical emergencies can happen anywhere, anytime. Ensuring a safe workplace for you and your team is vital.
It’s much more than just having a first aid kit in the kitchen or a poster on the wall. You need systems and equipment in place to reduce risk and potentially save lives.
A St John Safe assessment helps you understand the importance of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), develop a plan, meet workplace requirements and more. Best of all, it’s complimentary for businesses, schools and sporting clubs in the Perth metro area. Learn more here.
Community First Responder program
When someone suddenly collapses from a cardiac arrest, it’s important to know if an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is close at hand. Businesses and community organisations are urged to register their defibrillators with St John WA for free, so we can grow the State Defibrillator Network in response to a cardiac emergency and improve survival rates. Learn more here.
Coupled with the State Defibrillator Network, bystanders are needed to retrieve defibrillators and apply them in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. St John WA’s First Responder app is a free tool to access Triple Zero (000), first aid guides, mapped locations of defibrillators and SJWA Urgent Care centres, access to community transport, and first aid training history.
If a nearby (500 meters) medical emergency occurs, qualified first aiders who are registered on the app are notified and can assist until ambulance arrives. Download the app and register as a Community First Responder here.
Transport Services
Our Community Transport Service is a reliable, safe means of getting to medical appointments by providing a door-to-door service to those unable to use public transport or their usual means of transportation. This service is staffed by highly qualified first aid drivers and lifesaving equipment. Learn more here.
For patients with low to high acuity transport needs, such as wheelchairs, stretchers or complex medical conditions, we also have a Patient Transfer Service. Learn more here.
