Driving force for service to humanity: Community Transport drivers recognised for their volunteering efforts.

• More than 70 Community Transport Service volunteers have been recognised for their contribution to the community.
• Awards were distributed for 250, 500, 750, and 2000 hours of volunteering, additionally those who’ve dedicated 5 years to the organisation were also recognised.
• Three dedicated volunteers contributed a staggering 2000 hours, which roughly equals the same commitment as a full-time job.

St John WA has recognised the valuable contribution of its Community Transport Services (CTS) volunteer drivers during their annual awards ceremony held at the Aloft Hotel.

The awards are a way to acknowledge and thank volunteers for their contributions to the organisation and wider community as they transport clients between medical appointments, social engagements, work, enrichment opportunities, and much more.

Over the past year the team of volunteers has donated a whopping 75,250 hours of their time to help others in the community.

“Last week, we gathered to celebrate the incredible work of our volunteers over the past year,” Volunteer Support Manager Daryl Perrau said.

“We also celebrated the achievements of John Molcher, Graham Locker and Ron Clynk who went above and beyond, each giving more than 2000 hours of their time. It’s amazing what a difference just a few hours a week can make.”

The event this year also paid homage to Alex Gibson, a beloved volunteer who passed away earlier this year.

“Alex was a true inspiration, and his dedication to our community will never be forgotten.” Daryl said.

Every driver is not only dedicated to ensuring their clients arrive from A to B, but are also trained in the delivery of first aid and their vehicles are equipped with first aid supplies, including automated defibrillators, ensuring every effort to ensure their client’s safety is taken into account.

The service can be booked at least 24 hours in advance and extends to carers and companions, who travel for no cost.
